Birmingham Airport, the UK’s third largest airport has recently signed a three year contract with Brighton based entertainment experience and event production company, The Business Creative Ltd.

The Business Creative originally created the innovative children’s concept ‘Sky Side’ for Birmingham Airport in 2012. Initially developed to improve the passenger journey for families using the airport, the concept has been consistently updated and refreshed year on year, resulting in the launch of two brand new technology based play areas called Sky Zones for 2016.

The Sky Zones are free, interactive play areas that will keep kids entertained before they fly. Aimed at all ages, there are games for the youngest passengers through to ages 13 and upwards. There are two Sky Zones in the departure lounge - one by Gate 3 in the South Lounge and one by Gate 54 in the North Lounge.

The Business Creative specialises in creating immersive entertainment experiences for clients such as major leisure attractions, theme-parks, Hotels and tour operators.  Based in Brighton, and with offices in Dubai, The Business Creative brings together an unparalleled level of experience and innovation that will support Birmingham Airport in developing the customer journey for families over the next three years. The Sky Zone experience begins the moment children check-in and are given an interactive ‘flight pack’, the ultimate airport activity manual, bursting with fun games and puzzles designed to engage, amuse and inspire. As children make their way through the terminal to Sky Zone, floor stickers lead the way and feature clues to activities in the flight pack. Each zone has been specially designed to prevent children from getting ‘bored before they board’ with a selection of interactive games and activities, including a uniquely designed security spot check game, fly pads, a reaction station, a musical mission pod, memory games and many more exciting interactive experiences.

David Winstanley, Birmingham Airport’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “For many people their holiday starts the moment they step into the airport. We want both adults and children to find our facilities world class and their experience here memorable and positive.

“The Business creativity, commitment and professionalism has given us a truly innovative children’s entertainment facility that is both stimulating and fun for our younger passengers, which is centred on aviation to educate our young passengers about the airport.”

Director of The Business Creative, Jane Maguire, said: “Modernising and relaunching Sky Zone has been such an exciting project. The key to ensuring its success has been to work with the feedback we gathered from parents and children about the previous play area and combining this with the very latest technology to produce an entirely unique airport play experience.

“We discovered parents wanted more energy burning games for younger passengers in a safe and stimulating environment. With this in mind each zone was carefully designed to ensure physical and mental skills were tested such as co-ordination, speed and agility.

“We have very much enjoyed working on this ground-breaking concept for the last four years and we are extremely proud of the unique facilities now on offer to younger passengers at Birmingham Airport. The next three years will see continuous innovation and a firm focus on developing this world-class children’s experience”
